SDAT - STREAMER DELAYING AIR TERMINAL
Streamer Delaying Air Terminal Technology | Dual-Mode Lightning Protection
The Streamer Delaying Air Terminal (SDAT) from Lightning Eliminators offers an affordable alternative to standard air terminals as part of new or existing lightning protection systems.
The SDAT from Lightning Eliminators is designed to delay upward streamer generation, reduce the risk of direct strikes, and function as an efficient air terminal.
How It Works – Dual Mode Technology
Unlike traditional lightning rods that attract strikes, the Streamer Delaying Air Terminal (SDAT) uses dual-mode technology to protect and prevent.
In Prevention Mode, SDAT reduces the local electric field using charge transfer principles, making your facility a less likely target for lightning.
If a storm intensifies, SDAT switches to Protection Mode, acting as a performance air terminal to capture and conduct any strikes it can’t prevent - keeping operations and people safe.
SDAT installs with standard hardware, providing a simple and cost-effective way to boost the performance of any NFPA 780-compliant system.
A Systems Approach
SDAT can be a helpful component of your lightning protection system, working with grounding and surge suppression to achieve comprehensive protection. In conjunction with SDAT, a typical system would also include these other products:
• LEC’s patented Dissipation Array® System (DAS®) for a multi-layered lightning defense.
• A low-impedance grounding system using chemically charged electrodes (Chem-Rod®).
SDAT Applications
SDAT technology is an affordable, effective, and scalable solution for protecting critical infrastructure, including:
- Crude Oil Storage Tanks
- Oil Terminals and Tank Farms
- Refineries
- Data Centers
- Logistics and Fulfillment Centers
- Utility Infrastructure
- Chemical Plants
- Manufacturing and Processing Plants
- Airports and Transportation Facilities
- Other Critical Facilities and Structures
