Protecting Lifts and Aerial Tramways by Preventing Lightning Strikes with the Dissipation Array® System

Lightning protection solutions from LEC are protecting lifts and aerial tramways at leading ski resorts, including the Telluride Transit Gondola Company (TTGC).  TTGC transports approximately 2.25 million annual passengers on its 8-mile public transit and ski lift system connecting Telluride and Mountain Village. This region experiences an average of 7,300 cloud-to-ground lightning strikes each year, making effective protection essential.

TTGC turned to LEC for help. In 2001, LEC implemented a comprehensive Dissipation Array® System (DAS®) that included DAS hemispheres on the towers, DAS Ridge Arrays on the stations, and Chem-Rods® grounding enhancements across all structures. Since installation, lightning strikes have been prevented from terminating within the protected areas, despite the site’s extreme operating conditions of wind, snow, ice, and constant vibration.

We invite conference attendees to meet with Joe Lanzoni and learn more about our lightning protection solutions.
